BASIC and SCRAP present- Disarmament Dialogue: WMD-FZ in the Middle East

SCRAP and the British American Security Information Council (BASIC) present:

DISARMAMENT DIALOGUE: two evenings of active conversation surrounding disarmament in the Middle East and North Africa regions, facilitated by prominent academic speakers.

Evening 2: Barriers and Opportunities for Establishing a Weapons of Mass Destruction-Free Zone in the Middle East.

Friday 8th of February, 5-8pm, Alumni Lecture Theatre (Paul Webley Wing, SOAS University of London)

Our panel of speakers will give short presentations on their specialist areas, followed by smaller interactive working groups, which will address some of the main challenges facing disarmament in the Middle East region.


Paul Ingram is director of BASIC, and a key figure of expertise in the global disarmament debate.

Laila Alodaat of WILPF (the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom), is an international human rights lawyer specialising in the human rights of women in the Middle East region.

Hassan Elbahtimy joins us from King’s College London’s department of War Studies, where he is a lecturer on Science and Security.

Tony Robinson is co-director of international press agency Pressenza, and is a member of the International Humanist Party and World without Wars & Violence.
